Currently, we teach Basic Mathematics, English, and Life. At Situcan we envision having well-rounded education systems which will include enabling parents the knowledge to teach their children to teach themselves. Yes! the parents are also part of the program and are encouraged to practice our slogan which inculcates our core values: Everything is easy through patience, respect, dedication, support, and fun!
Meet Tracia
Tracia John comes from the beautiful chain of islands, St Vincent and the Grenadines. She graduated with honors as a Mechanical Engineer and dreams big; really big! Her strong desire to someday become an astronaut led her through a path of truly appreciating what a proper education with inspirational teachers can do for your brain. When she left her home country to work in Trinidad, she was exposed to the harsh reality of immigrant children having little to no opportunity of such an education. Her knowledge in Branding, SDGs, human psychology, and appreciation of different cultures makes her a true visionary for the Situcan mission.
Meet Dillano
Dillano Rapsey is part of the early Venezuelan diaspora with deep ancestral roots from both Venezuela and Trinidad. The great Venezuelan migration led him through a very tough mental journey which he emerged highly enlightened from. This journey provided him knowledge in Human psychology, B2B marketing, physical education, music, writing, philosophy, History, culture, and much more. He is, like Tracia, a visionary to the core.
Situcan always keeps in contact with student's families. We never abandon.
Our History
Group 1 Children
Duration of course:
4 months, once a week
Tools for educating:
- WhatsApp for communication and inspiration
- Donated educational space by a BUSINESS
- Projector
- recreational public facilities for games and exercises.
Methods included:
- pure education on Mathematics, English and Life as the control
- Mixing Education with lots of short video game breaks
- Mixing Educaton with lots of short exercise breaks.
- Mixing education with a mix of video game and exercise breaks.
Results:
- Least effective method: pure education.
- most effective method: mixed education with pure exercise games ONLY
- children graduated at level 'participation', level 1, and level 2
Additional notes:
- Although we tried to keep contact with children and parents via WhatsApp and occasional meetings (once every 3 months), results drastically declined after the four-month period ended.
Conclusion:
- a minimum period of 1 year at a rate of one class per week may be required to instill Situcan values into Families.
Group 2 Children
Duration of course:
4 months, once a week
Tools for educating:
- WhatsApp for communication and inspiration
- Donated educational space by a PARENT.
- Whiteboard
- Gamified point system
- The Duolingo app was utilized to keep track of consistent learning.
Methods included:
- pure education on Mathematics, English and Life as the control
- Art, acting and music sessions which integrated already freshly attained English knowledge
- food breaks with life conversations
- strong memorization of core values
- PTA meetings
- parental presence during class
Results:
- Children graduated at level 1, level 3, level 5
- One parent graduated as a golden parent
Additional notes:
- After the 4-month period, results declined, however, not as much as with first group of children.
Conclusion:
- a minimum period of 6 months at a rate of one class per week with an additional 6 months of 1 class per month may be required with this more advanced teaching method. Children are learning to appreciate the game of self-teaching.
